Year-Wise Partnership PYQs (2011-2024)

Q1. Two persons P and Q enter into a business. P puts Rs. 14,000 more than Q, but P has invested for 8 months and Q has invested for 10 months. If P's share is Rs. 400 more than Q's share out of the total profit of Rs. 2,000, what is the capital contributed by P? [CSAT 2024]

(a) Rs. 30,000

(b) Rs. 26,000

(c) Rs. 24,000

(d) Rs. 20,000

Solution:

Given that,

P = Rs. 14000 + Q

P's investment = 8 months

Q's investment = 10 months

Total profit = Rs.2000

P's share = Rs. 400 + Q's share

Now,

Profit = Investment x time period

Total profit = Rs.2000 = P's share + Q's share

2000 = Q + Q + 400

2Q = 1600

Q's share of profit = Rs. 800

P's share of profit = Rs. 1200

Profit ratio = P/Q = [(14000 + Q) x 8]/(Q x 10) = 1200/800

By solving the equation

The value of Q = Rs. 16000

So, P = 14000 + 16000 = Rs. 30000

Hence option (a) is correct
